The US Department of Interior's National Park Service selected the Experimental Aircraft Association, in cooperation with the Wright Experience, to recreate the historic first flight of the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 2003.

In support of Ken Hyde and the Wright Experience, the LFST testing program goals were:

Educating a New Generation of Experimental Engineers by Appling Modern Testing Techniques to History's Most Important Airplanes.
