The Langley Full-Scale Tunnel (LFST) provides a wide range of services for full-scale and large-scale aerodynamic testing and research support, to address a diversity of aerospace, surface vehicle and specialty applications. LFST is operated by a professional staff, employed by the Old Dominion University Research Foundation and managed by the Department of Aerospace Engineering . Our missions are:
Stewardship of a nationally important wind tunnel facility..
Leadership in aeronautical testing education.
Development of best practices for cost effective wind tunnel testing.
Operation of a self-sustaining public wind tunnel partnership
Old Dominion University's focus has been on expanding and transitioning the unique full-scale aerodynamic test capabilities of the Langley Full-Scale Tunnel to the diverse transportation system applications of the private sector. Langley Full Scale Tunnel is also developing strong research, educational, and training components as part of its experimental and computational operations. Because of its size the Langley Full-Scale Tunnel is a truly unique laboratory where students can be exposed to real-world engineering problems, and be inspired by its long and rich history.
